Podium Wine Club Party

  • Peloton Cellars 470 Front Street Avila Beach, CA 93424 United States (map)

We're excited to share a milestone moment for Peloton Cellars: the inaugural release of our 2023 Criterium Bordeaux-style blend, crafted from the Vali Vineyard in the Adelaide District of Paso Robles. This site brings a distinct combination of bright acidity, dark fruit, and savory depth that defines the wine from the very first sip.

Criterium opens with layered aromatics of cherry, black tea, and warm spice, followed by a textured palate and a long, cocoa-tinged finish. It's expressive, complex, and a beautiful reflection of this exceptional vineyard.

2023 Criterium

Bordeaux Style Blend

Criterium shows a beautifully layered profile with bright acidity, dark fruit, savory complexity, and a long, textural finish.

Nose: Aromas open with sour cherry and black tea, followed by cracked pepper and a subtle, savory caramelized onion note that adds intrigue. A faint nutty edge and delicate ume plum character lift the bouquet, giving it both brightness and depth.

Front Palate: The entry is spicy and dark-fruited, with blackberry and cherry leading. The spice comes forward immediately-lively, warming, and well-integrated-setting the tone for a structured, energetic mid-palate.

Mid-Palate: The mid-section tightens and b rightens: spicy tart cherry, black cherry and a distinctive smoked paprika note. This phase shows tension-fruit acidity meeting savory spice-creating a dynamic, Bordeaux-inspired progression.

Finish: The finish is long, earthy, and textural. Notes of coca nibs, black tea, and mushroom emerge as the fruit recedes, followed by a final lift of reduced raspberry. The tannins feel fine-grained and persistent, carrying the savory elements through to a clean, lingering close.
